Kansas City loves college basketball, especially March Madness, and KC also loves BBBS. Therefore, we combined the two and created March Matchness! March Matchness is a way current Bigs and supporters can get involved and help us recruit new mentors for some of the 450 children on our waiting list. This is a fun, competitive way to help us spread the word about the great opportunity to be a Big.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City Celebrates National Mentoring Month
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – 2015 marked the 50th anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City (BBBSKC) and a record-breaking year for the organization. During the past year, the BBBSKC waiting list composed of children (and their families) who want and need a mentor in their lives grew by nearly 40%. Part of this increase is due to new programs specifically aimed at matching teens with mentors to help them get to the next step in their lives.
KC Magazine’s Most Wanted Auction raises $357,000 for Big Brothers Big Sisters
Saturday, December 6, KC Magazine held it’s 10th annual Auction benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City (BBBSKC.) This year’s auction raised a record-breaking $357,000, exceeding this year’s $200,000 goal. Each year, KC Magazine selects 30-35 dynamic, hard-working professionals to be honored as KC’s Most Wanted. These individuals are movers and shakers who are making a difference in their profession, in their community and in the lives of the people around them.
Step Up Big with Eric Hosmer raises $10,000 for BBBSKC
This season, Eric Hosmer was a star both on and off the field by promoting his campaign to benefit BBBSKC called Step Up Big. This campaign urged supporters to become a Big or pledging any dollar amount for every double he hits this season. The campaign raised nearly $10,000 and recruited dozens of new volunteers for BBBSKC. Thank you Eric Hosmer!
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City wins $50,000 “Lincoln’s Legacy Award” from Lincoln Financial
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City was announced the winner of “Lincoln’s Legacy Award,” presented by Lincoln Financial on October 6, 2015 after a competitive selection process that included an application process and an online campaign that allowed voters to choose from five non-profits across the country to receive the award. The award came with a $50,000 grant.
BBBSKC was recently awarded the network’s highest honor, Agency of the Year, which is awarded to the top Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the country. Out of nearly 400 national affiliates, Kansas City’s Big Brothers Big Sisters agency was recognized as the top-performing agency in the country. In addition to Agency of the Year, BBBSKC received the Gold Standard award and Kansas City Big Brother Chris Rosburg was named the National Big Brother of the Year.
