Help match kids with Bigs

Sponsor change in your community.

Volunteering is fun, big time.

Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most enjoyable things you’ll ever do. Not to mention, one of the most fulfilling. You have the opportunity to help shape a child’s future for the better by empowering them to achieve. And the best part is, it’s actually a lot of fun. You and your Little can share the kinds of activities you already like to do.

Play sports together. Go on a hike. Read books. Eat a pizza with extra anchovies. Or just give some advice and inspiration. Whatever it is you enjoy, odds are you’ll enjoy them even more with your Little—and you’ll be making a life-changing impact.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City offers two basic programs.

Community Based Program:
The community based program is the traditional Big Brothers Big Sisters program that matches children ages 8-14 from one-parent or non-traditional households with caring, adult mentors.

  • Children simply want and an extra person in their lives.
  • Independent research shows kids who are matched with "Bigs" are more likely to succeed in life.
  • Commitment is a few hours a week.
  • There are kids from all over the Greater Kansas City area.

ACES Mentor Program:

This initiative seeks to support at-risk children not only through post secondary education as well. This program provides the guidance and resources necessary to help students become successful. BBBS-KC provides every ACES participant with a much-needed mentor. The ACES Program is a bit different than the traditional program. Bigs & Littles meet 6-8 hours (or twice) a month and work on building a friendship that includes talking about post secondary education. The children are all enrolled in the KCMO or KCK school districts.

You should consider volunteering for this initiative if any of these apply:

  • You have 6-8 hours or twice a month to share with a high school student.
  • Would like to help a child graduate from high school and be successful.
