So many ways to get started
Adults Committed to Educating Students (ACES) Mentoring Program
The goal of the ACES program is to match motivated 8th grade through 11th grade students with Bigs who will help encourage their future aspirations. ACES Bigs are expected to be a friend to their Little, have fun, expose them to new ideas, activities, etc, but as part of the ACES program the Big is also expected to help the Little successfully navigate through high school and prepare them for the next step. Our hope is that matches have fun together, but that they also focus on the student’s goals after high school – whether that be going to college, going to a trade school or going into the military.
The ACES Program is a bit different than the traditional program. Bigs & Littles meet twice a month and work on building a friendship that includes talking about post secondary education. The students are area middle and high school students who are motivated and driven to succeed.
Unique to this program is specialized Case Management, resources, workshops and job shadowing opportunities designed to support the ACES student in their educational journey. You should consider volunteering for this initiative if any of these apply:
Learning about life.
Although this program may sound a lot like school work, that's not what it's all about. Of course, some Littles do talk with their Bigs about class, or do homework, or read together, but it’s perfectly fine to shoot hoops or go to a movies. At the end of the day, it's really all about starting a friendship, providing guidance and inspiring them to reach their potential.
