ACES Program

Adults Committed to Educating our Students (ACES) Mentoring Program

The goal of the Adults Committed to Educating our Students program is to match motivated 8th grade through 12th grade students with Bigs who will help encourage their future aspirations. ACES Bigs are expected to be a friend to their Little, but as part of the ACES program the Big is also expected to help the Little successfully navigate through high school and prepare them for the next step. Our hope is that matches have fun together, but that they also focus on the student’s goals after high school – whether that be going to college, going to a trade school or going into the military.

The ACES Program is a bit different than the traditional program. Bigs & Littles meet 6-8 hours (or twice) a month and work on building a friendship that includes talking about post secondary education. The children are all enrolled in the KCMO or KCK school districts.

You should consider volunteering for this initiative if any of these apply:
  • You have 6-8 hours or twice a month to share with a high school student.
  • Would like to help a child graduate from high school and be successful.

Learning about life.

Although this program may sound a lot like school work, that's not what it's all about. Of course, some Littles do talk with their Bigs about class, or do homework, or read together, but it’s perfectly fine to shoot hoops or go to a movies. At the end of the day, it's really all about starting a friendship, providing guidance and inspiring them to reach their potential.

At Big Brothers Big Sisters, we have tremendous confidence in our ability to impact children and put them on the right path. But it means even more when an outside study comes to the same conclusion.
