Diversity Task Force
Diversity Task ForceThe Big Brothers Big Sisters Diversity Taskforce is a group of community leaders who care about increasing the diversity of the volunteers of Big Brothers Big Sisters. There are over 250 kids waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister. Over 80% of them are African American or Latino and they or their parents would like a same race mentor. There are over 1,200 active Big Brothers Big Sisters matches yet only 15% are minority same race Matches. The goal of the taskforce is to increase exposure of the program in the African American and Latino communities and therefore obtain additional African American and Latino Big Brothers and Big Sisters. The Diversity Taskforce Key Objectives: The Diversity Taskforce is broken into 3 sub-committees to allow members to focus on a particular strategy and have the most impact. The three sub-committees are Marketing, Innovative Approaches and Diverse Organizations. Marketing – The Marketing sub-committee focuses on tactics such as media relations, e-communications, recruitment campaigns, referral programs, social media and marketing support materials. Innovative Approaches – The Innovative Approaches sub-committee focuses on working “outside the box” and developing new initiatives to recruit. Areas of focus for the Innovative Approaches group include creating a signature event for the Latino and African American communities, Recruitment Blitzes such as a Barbershop Campaign and a Mexican Restaurant Campaign, College Based Recruitment Strategies and more. Diverse Organizations – The Diverse Organizations group works on developing a comprehensive list of diverse corporate affinity groups and community organizations and develop a partnership with them and Big Brothers Big Sisters. This group also focuses on arranging speaking engagements and securing booths at community events. The work completed by these three sub-committees will be tracked and measured. The goal is to recruit 250 new African American and Latino Bigs in one year.
