The Kansas City Ambassadors is a group of forty-four former Kansas City Chiefs players from throughout the club’s history who are committed to creating impact in their community. The Ambassadors are the only group of its kind in the NFL and inductees into the group are hand-picked based on tenure and their willingness to participate in Ambassador outreach events and meetings. Many of them have been involved with the BBBS program in the past and want to do more to help. They have committed to using their connections and resources to recruit volunteers to serve in long-term, one-to-one life-changing friendships with children from the Big Brothers Big Sisters waiting list, who are facing adversity in their lives. This 3-year partnership will focus on recruiting 3,000 new Big Brother and Big Sister volunteers. The partnership will include a targeted Fall recruitment drive and event each year.
“With Big Brothers Big Sisters it was an easy fit due to the fact that it was one of Lamar Hunt Sr.’s favorite charities in Kansas City,” said Bill Maas, Former All-Pro Chiefs Defensive Tackle. “We wanted to help continue to carry that on and be a part of Big Brothers Big Sisters.”
“With our enthusiasm and energy and having the Kansas City Chiefs name behind us, we’re going to be able to work together,” said Tim Grunhard, Former All-Pro Chiefs Center. “This city has such a big heart and I think Big Brothers Big Sisters is part of that blood that pumps through the heart of Kansas City.”
“Having the opportunity to partner with such a respected and community-focused group of professional athletes in our city is amazing,” CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Kansas City Micheal Lawrence said. “Our city loves the Kansas City Chiefs and this partnership will allow us to celebrate that love for football while pairing it with the ability to help change lives of children through the power of one-to-one mentoring.”
