BBBSKC Announces New Leadership Structure

Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City is proud to announce some exciting new additions and changes to our leadership team.

Effective November 1, 2018, Erica Ostroski (Chief Operating Officer), Tiffany Stuck (Chief Development Officer), and Tonya Jackson (Chief Program Officer) will join Micheal Lawrence (Chief Executive Officer), Colby Jones (Chief Financial Officer), and Kristi Hutchison (Chief Marketing Officer) on the Executive Leadership team of BBBSKC. Combined, this six-member team represents 81 years of experience at BBBSKC. Read their biographies below, starting with the newly promoted members of our team.

Erica Ostroski,  Chief Operating Officer

AS COO, Erica will directly support all of BBBSKC’s external-facing teams, including recruitment, client services, ACES, external partnerships, and the BBBSKC office manager. Erica will also also work directly with BBBSKC’s four satellite offices in St. Joseph, Clinton, Warrensburg and Maryville, MO.

Erica graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a bachelor’s degree in English. Erica has served on staff at BBBSKC for 10 years as special events coordinator, special events manager, director of special events, and now Chief Operating Officer.

Speaking about her experience at BBBSKC, Erica said, “Work takes up a great deal of our lives, so having a job at a company that I truly love for a mission that I really believe in has brought so much joy and meaning to my life. I'm extremely optimistic about the future of this agency and that has so much to do with our leadership team and our incredibly hard working staff. Together we are defenders of potential!”

Erica and her husband have been matched as a Big Couple with their Little Brother, Dylan, for the past 10 years. Her Little Sister, Pearl, is 27 now, and they still see each other on a regular basis.

Tiffany Stuck, Chief Development Officer

As the new CDO for BBBSKC, Tiffany leads the agency’s special events and development teams. “Our fundraising team consists of 7 of the most creative, hard-working, go-getters I know!” said Tiffany. “Our crew works tirelessly to raise our annual operating budget through fundraising events, corporate and individual donations, and foundation funding.”

Tiffany graduated from Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in communication. Ten years ago, she joined the staff at BBBSKC as a special events intern. Through the past decade, she has risen from intern to project coordinator, from project coordinator to development coordinator, from development coordinator to director of development, and now from director of development to Chief Development Officer.

Tiffany’s connections to BBBSKC go well beyond her role as CDO. Tiffany has been matched with her Little Sister, M’racle, since 2012, and she met her husband through BBBSKC when he attended an event nearly 6 years ago.

Tiffany’s favorite memory from her time at BBBSKC? “The best moment was when M’racle and I finally won the Halloween costume contest after competing for 6 years! We won as elderly women who had been matched as Sisters for 50 years.”

Tonya Jackson, Chief Program Officer

As the new CPO for BBBSKC, Tonya will work closely with the CEO in creating and executing a strategic vision for the Program Team while continuously evaluating the program for a comprehensive plan that ensures the quality, efficiency, compliance, and consistency for BBBS programming.

Tonya graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with a master’s degree in communication studies. A 17-year veteran of BBBSKC, she first joined the staff as a case manager and also served as senior case manager, manager of enrollment and matching, and director of enrollment and matching before moving into her current role as Chief Program Officer.

As the leader of BBBSKC’s largest department, Tonya brings a clear vision for the purpose and future of our executive team: “Leaders value people and understand they are in the people business,” said Tonya. “Our leadership team will work to motivate and develop people while delivering incredible results for the agency and our Littles.”

Micheal Lawrence, Chief Executive Officer

As the Chief Executive Officer for BBBSKC, Micheal sets the strategic vision for the agency, ensures the agency attracts and retains high-quality talent by establishing the right culture, builds and sustains relationships with stakeholders, and makes decisions that drive the agency forward.

While Micheal has served as CEO for the past 11 years, he has been on staff at BBBSKC for over 26 years. Micheal has previously served in a variety of roles, including case manager, director of special events, program director, associate executive director, and executive director before assuming his current role as CEO in 2008.

During his time as CEO, Micheal has led the agency to become one of the fastest growing Big Brothers Big Sisters agency in the country, increasing the number of children served by more than 80%. Under his leadership, BBBSKC has been recognized as the top performing BBBS agency in America, earning the prestigious Gold Standard Award and Agency of the Year Award four times from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

Prior to coming to Big Brothers Big Sisters, Micheal worked with runaway children and was inspired by observing a relationship between a Little Brother and Big Brother. During a time of extreme crisis, the only adult that this young person cared about was a volunteer in the Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Micheal is a Big himself and has been matched to his Little Brother, Jesse, for more than ten years.

Colby Jones, Chief Financial Officer

As CFO, Colby ensures that the agency’s leadership has accurate financial information that enable them to make informed decisions for the agency.

Colby graduated from Kansas State University with a master’s degree in accounting. Long before he joined the staff at BBBSKC, Colby was matched with his Little Brother, Ben, for over 10 years. Colby has also served on the Board of Directors and Donation Center Board for BBBSKC and was previously recognized as “Big of the Year” for the state of Missouri.

More recently, Colby served as CFO for the Kansas City Ballet before joining the team at BBBSKC in 2014.

Speaking about his experience with BBBSKC, Colby said, “I feel privileged to be working with such a proven, talented group.”

Kristi Hutchison, Chief Marketing Officer

As CMO, Kristi leads the marketing team that works to grow the agency’s brand awareness and increase volunteerism and donations through public relations, graphic design, photography, videography, social media, website management, email marketing, advertising, public speaking, and more.

Kristi graduated from Northwest Missouri State University with a bachelor’s degree in public relations. She has served on staff at BBBSKC for 14 years and originally joined the team as communications director before moving up to Chief Marketing Officer in 2010. More recently, Kristi helped lead the taskforce that oversaw the creation and execution of the nationwide rebrand of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.

“I could not be prouder to be on the leadership team of BBBSKC,” said Kristi. “The leaders of this team are hard-working, goal-driven, creative-minded and mission-focused. Each leader has proven success in their departments. It is such an honor to work for an organization I feel so passionate about with people that love their jobs as much as I love mine.”

Along with the restructured Executive Team, the Directors Team has been evaluated and refreshed to include representation from each department in the organization. The Directors are leaders and managers of their teams and work to hit department goals that lead the agency to success. Combined, the five members of the Directors Team have 55 years of experience between them. The Directors team includes:

  • Brittany Davis, Director of Special Events (newly promoted)
  • Laura Hambrecht, Director of Client Services
  • Scott Cruce, Director of Volunteer Recruitment
  • Adam Kaleikau, Creative Director
  • Denise Hill, Quality Assurance Director

BBBSKC takes a unique perspective that stands apart from a typical company’s organizational chart. Our core belief is that the Littles in our program are always at the top of the pyramid. BBBSKC’s leaders make up the base in order to support the direct service staff and Bigs and Littles in the program.
