Our board members are movers and shakers in the community, experts in their fields, extremely smart, well-connected and, most importantly, passionate about mentoring and changing children’s lives for the better! They give their time, treasures, and talent to help BBBS continue to support the kids we serve while helping us grow each year through innovative brainstorming, raising money and advocating for the community. I don’t know how we would exist without them because they are THAT important to our agency.
The BBBSKC board is not a board you enter into lightly. Each board member believes that mentoring is a solution for our at-risk youth, agrees to make BBBS one of their top two priority organizations and personally commits to supporting the agency, along with raising money to hit a give/get of $10,000. I am proud to say that our board members don’t stop when they’ve hit their goals. They go above and beyond all year long, helping to make introductions, raise funds and rally their employees, friends, and family around our many events and volunteer opportunities. Last year, our board raised $600,000, made over 100 introductions to new companies and individuals and recruited countless new Bigs. On top of that, we had board members attend every event we had last year, and if are familiar with BBBS events, you know we have A LOT! I am happy to say that this year they are on track to surpass last year’s successes!
This year, we changed things up a bit and moved away from a committee structure and created task forces for board members to serve on. The task forces specifically dive into a challenge the agency needs help with, allowing board members to assist wherever it best suits their skill sets or interests. These task forces are allowing us to best tap into our board member’s expertise and it’s incredible to see the impact they are having on the agency and the kids we serve.
Bottom line, our board members are some of the most impressive people I know. They’ve been recognized in the community as Rising Stars, 40 Under 40, Women Who Mean Business and more. I am constantly amazed by their ability to juggle their careers and families while lending so much time to support BBBS. I consider our board members to be great mentors in my life and to our team. I look up to each and every one of them, and I feel so incredibly lucky to get to work so closely with them.
