Match Appreciation Banquet 2018 Recap

At this year’s Big Brother Big Sisters Match Appreciation Banquet presented by Phone Medic and Wireless Lifestyle, we had over 415 matches attend along with sponsors and supports of the agency, tallying up to almost 1,250 people in attendance. KC Wolf, Blue and Sluggerrr in the house taking photos with matches and strutting the red carpet in style. Moon Drop Circus performed before the doors open with the Rosetta Sisters, an acrobatic duo and Jason D’Vaude, who was able to balance on a very tall unicycle while juggling. Spiderman, Wonder Woman and Black Panther from A to Z Theatrical Supply and Service showed up to take some great photos with our matches! Theatre Tech Productions provided balloon artists, magicians, a stilt walker, along with other magical experiences that wowed our Littles on the red carpet!

The program kicked off with a special performance from TigerStyle Crew! with a fun dance on stage and a quick interactive dance sequence where matches performed on stage.

During the banquet, we were able to honor 10 Little Spotlight award winners to Little’s who have done something truly exceptional this year. The Little’s were honored for a range recognition including embracing new opportunities, receiving a scholarship to play football, working on becoming a lawyer, and having a full-time job while attending college.

Throughout the rest of the program, we highlighted our sponsors, donors, supporters, board members, Match Makers and our newest group Bigs Who Bowl. We were able to crown the King of Bigs Who Bowl at the banquet for raising $6,550 alone for the agency last year through Bowl For Kids’ Sake. Starting this year, Bigs Who Bowl will receive special access to Match ticket opportunities, invitations to Match Bowling activities and social events with fellow Bigs.

One of the best highlights of the Match Appreciation Banquet is announcing the Kansas City Bigs of the Year and hearing their inspirational stories. Littles, parents and case managers wrote essays to nominate these exceptional volunteers. A committee of agency supporters met to review the nomination and then selected our final winners. Our Big Couple of the Year went to Robert and Marcia Metzler for their match to Little Brother, Ananias. Big Brother of the Year went to Tyler Way for his match with Little Brother, Will. Big Sister of the Year went to Trisha Brauer for her match with Little Sister, Mia.

We hope to see you at our Match Appreciation Banquet next year on April 14th back at Overland Park Convention Center!
