Biology or Chemistry/ Plastic Surgeon
How has your Big helped you get where you are?
My Big Sister has always encouraged me to do whatever I wanted to do and if I work hard enough for what I want I will get it.
What is something you are most proud of?
I received all A’s this year and I am currently a 4.0 student.
Have you gone through any tough or challenging times and how did you deal with those times?
I feel that I go through everyday teenager challenges, but nothing I can't handle.
What does it mean to you to be selected as a Girl on the Rise?
Being selected for Girls on the Rise is a true honor. I am very honored that my Big Sister believed in me enough to nominate me. I was very excited to hear that I was one of the ten girls selected.
What inspired you to want to be involved with Girls on the Rise?
Girls on the Rise has inspired me to have the opportunity to be able to visit my dream college. Without the assistance, it would not be possible.
How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund/Big Brothers Big Sisters help you reach your goals? In other words: Why is the opportunity to visit your prospective colleges important to your journey?
Funding from Girls on the Rise will allow me to go to Howard University and experience the college campus as well as the culture and environment of the Howard University community. A lot of students select colleges that they have not visited and later realize that the college was not the right fit for them and as a result they drop out.
What schools will you use the funding to visit, and why?
My dream college is Howard University and it has great 6-year medical program.
After a thorough application process, 10 motivated, smart and talented young women from the BBBS program have been selected to be our 2017 Girls on the Rise.
Although they meet the qualifications to attend some of the best schools in the country, many would not be able to visit their dream schools. Because we believe the possibilities are endless for these girls, we are helping make the college visits of their dreams come true.
