How has your Big helped you get where you are?
My big has helped me in many ways starting from the first day we met. She has helped me become more confident in my own skin. She has taught me to look at the world differently by looking at everything as an opportunity rather than a challenge.
What is something you are most proud of?
I am most proud of the woman I am becoming, I have grown tremendously and I can honestly say it's been one heck of a battle.
Have you gone through any tough or challenging times and how did you deal with those times?
There have been challenging times in my life where I’ve had to step back and realize that I couldn't run and hide, I had to learn to deal with the problems I faced. I didn't like who I was becoming and I didn't like the mindset I had on life. My Big Sister stepped in and helped me change that, she gave me confidence and trust.
What does it mean to you to be selected as a Girl on the Rise?
This is an opportunity for me to visit colleges I never thought I would visit. If I wasn't apart of this program, I don't think I would have the chance to go to college.
What inspired you to want to be involved with Girls on the Rise?
Girls on the Rise gives me the chance to network and make connections, so I am grateful to be apart of it.
How will funding from the 1,000 Dreams Fund/Big Brothers Big Sisters help you reach your goals? In other words: Why is the opportunity to visit your prospective colleges important to your journey?
The opportunity to visit my prospective colleges is important to my journey because it will give me the option to choose which college I want to continue my studies.
What schools will you use the funding to visit, and why?
I would like to visit Ohio State University, University of Missouri, and Wichita State University. I want to have a lot of options, so I think this list might expand.
