Do you know what you’d like to major in or have a career in? If so, what is it?
I would like to major in medicine.
How has your Big helped you get where you are?
My Big Sister Ingrid has been a great role model for me. She has helped me meet with some of her coworkers to gain professional experience and she has helped me look at different colleges.
What is something your Big has taught you?
My Big has taught me to always remember to keep my mind set on my goals and know I can do anything if I just believe in myself and have faith.
What is something you are most proud of?
I am most proud of the smart and respectful young women I have become.
Have you gone through any tough or challenging times and how did you deal with those times?
Yes, my 9th and 10th-grade years were tough for me, but Ingrid and her husband Mike have always been a help, especially with homework.
What does it mean to you to be selected as a Girl on the Rise?
It honestly means a lot to me to be a selected. I've been wanting to travel to so many other colleges. I was struggling to save money to go on those visits and needing time to take off from work and school was a hassle. Being apart of this has made a very, very huge impact on my life I get to meet so many different girls who dream of doing the same thing I want to do in the future-going to college and conquering our dreams.
What schools will you use the funding to visit, and why?
I would like to visit Tennessee for a couple reasons. My aunt went there and I have always heard stories about it, so I want to check out the college environment there and see what the college has to offer. Tennessee also has good step groups that I would want to participate in. I also want to visit Jackson State University, because it has a beautiful campus and I feel like it would be a good home for me.
After a thorough application process, 10 motivated, smart and talented young women from the BBBS program have been selected to be our 2017 Girls on the Rise.
Although they meet the qualifications to attend some of the best schools in the country, many would not be able to visit their dream schools. Because we believe the possibilities are endless for these girls, we are helping make the college visits of their dreams come true.
