Our “Be a Woman on the Rise” conversation was led by four extraordinary women in KC:
- Rachel Sexton, Creative Director, VPR Creative Group
- Jennifer Pegues, Financial Representative, Northwestern Mutual
- Laura Isabel Alvarez, Program Manager, H&R Block
- India Williams, Director of KIPP Through College, Mentor with Generation Rap on KPRS
These women were open and honest with us. They talked about their lives, challenges they’ve overcome, times they had to admit to themselves that their goals needed to change and about the importance of self-confidence. Our matches engaged in conversation about life in high school and how it is important to set the tone for your future early in life. BBBSKC is working to support our students on their path to success in so many ways, and one of those ways is by putting on events like “Be a Woman on the Rise.” Keep an eye out for more meaningful and engaging ACES programming, like our Multiple Pathways event on September 14. BBBSKC is also launching a campaign next month to raise funds for 10 girls in our program to go on college visits. Our “Girls on the Rise” partnership with the 1,000 Dreams Fund kicks off in September. More details to come soon!
