Big Brothers Big Sisters KC Launches First-Ever “60 Bigs in 60 Minutes” Recruitment Challenge
Historic, one-hour event aims to sign up 60 new mentors to celebrate 60 years of impact
Kansas City, Mo. — (October 21, 2025) — Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City (BBBSKC) is making history with the first-ever one-hour recruitment challenge in the organization’s 60-year history. On October 28 from 9:00–10:00 AM, BBBSKC will host “60 Bigs in 60 Minutes”—a fast-paced, citywide push to recruit mentors (“Bigs”) and match them with the hundreds of Kansas City kids waiting for a Big Brother or Big Sister.
Throughout the hour, BBBSKC staff and volunteers will be set up at pop-up booths in coffee shops across Kansas City, ready to sign up new mentors on the spot. To keep the energy high, there will be live prize drawings throughout the hour, including a $350 VISA gift card for anyone who signs up during the event.
“This is about rallying our community in a bold new way,” said Micheal Lawrence, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Kansas City. “There are more than 200 kids in Kansas City waiting for a mentor right now. In just one hour, we’re challenging Kansas City to step up and change lives. One hour of action can create a lifetime of impact.”
The event not only celebrates BBBSKC’s 60th anniversary, but also sets the stage for what could be a national model for youth mentorship recruitment. By attempting to sign up 60 Bigs in just 60 minutes, Kansas City will become the first BBBS agency in history to launch a one-hour challenge of this kind.
