Helping Junior Dream Bigger
March 3, 2026

For the past four years, Big Couple Dan and Ellen have been a steady, encouraging presence in the life of their Little, Daniel “Junior” Zamora. But to Junior, they’re more than mentors, they’re family.

A Safe Space to Be Himself

When asked what makes Dan and Ellen extraordinary, Junior’s answer is simple: they show up, and they listen.

“They always make time for me and make me feel like family,” he shares. “They will sit and let me express myself to them and talk to them about everything I have on my mind.”

And when life gets busy or plans need to change? They make it a priority to reconnect. Even while raising their daughter, Lily, they ensure Junior feels included and valued.

Encouragement Toward a Bright Future

Dan and Ellen’s impact reaches far beyond fun outings. They are deeply invested in Junior’s future.

“They are always there if I ever need help with homework or anything I don’t understand at school,” Junior says. “They offer to take me to events that could help me with my career, like touring colleges or college fairs. They want to see me have a good future and want to help in any way they can.”

That encouragement is making a difference. Over the past year, Junior’s uncle has seen him grow in responsibility and determination.

“Daniel has improved a great amount in being more responsible,” he shares. “He works a lot harder and has tried new things. He understands more so now that he has control of making a good life for himself.”

Showing Up When It Matters Most

Junior has endured more than most kids his age, including the tragic loss of both of his parents. Through it all, Dan and Ellen have remained consistent.

“That matters to me,” his guardian shares. “When things get hard, people keep showing up for those they care for and believe in. They have welcomed him into their home on many occasions and are constantly checking in on him. I have no doubt that Daniel is a better human because of the investment Dan and Ellen have played in his life.”

Consistency is powerful. Especially for a young person navigating loss and change, knowing there are adults who will keep showing up.

A Relationship That Lasts

Their Match Support Specialist has witnessed firsthand the depth of this relationship. “From the very beginning, they have been open and invested in his happiness and growth,” she shares. “Their ability to provide a safe space for Daniel to be himself has made a lasting impact on his confidence and emotional well-being. Even with their own family commitments, they always make time for him, ensuring he feels like a true part of their family.”

Because of Bigs like Dan and Ellen, Junior can dream big, talk freely, and grow confidently into the person he is becoming.
